The Man Booker 2009 Readings

2006 – The Inheritance of Loss – Kiran Desai (winner)
2007 – Indra Sinha (Short List) & Nikita Lalwani (Long-list)
2008 – The White Tiger – Arvind Adiga
2009 – . . . . . ?

With no Indian in the fray for the first time in a while at the Man Booker nominations – neither in the Long List, nor in the Short List… is it time for an objective guess?

  • Summertime by J.M. Coetzee
  • The Children’s Book by A.S. Byatt
  • The Glass Room by Simon Mawer
  • The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters
  • The Quickening Maze by Adam Foulds
  • Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel
After a dust-biting 2008 for heavy-weights no less a giant than Salman Rushdie (long-list) or Amitav Ghosh (short-list), would it finally be the year of heavy-weights in Coetzee or Byatt? Coetzee is headed for his 3rd Man Booker (after 1983 and 1999) & Byatt her 2nd time (she won in 1990). Or would it be one of the others?

The Man Booker – the biggest literary prize for fiction in English is back. The winner would be announced on the night of October 6th.

Celebrating this winner would be The British Council in association with ‘Masquerade – the performance group’ & ‘Masquerade Youth Theater’ (MYT) on October 10th at the British Council

through dramatised readings
of excerpts from all 6 nominees
with special focus
on the Winner of Man Booker 2009
The performance would thread through Author bios and audio-visual bytes to make it more than just a reading.

Be there…
